NRSWA Training for Operatives & Supervisors

New Roads & Street Works (NRSWA) training we offer is in line with The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, which places a duty on any person or organisation undertaking work involving the installation, renewal, maintenance or inspection of underground apparatus in any street or road to ensure that work is under the control of competent persons.
This course teaches the skills operatives and supervisors need to carry out work to the standards of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 – the legal framework for street works.
ATS Group is proudly accredited by CABWI under the regulations of HAUC.

Course Content

You will become competent as an Operative of manual excavation and reinstatement on the highway, including:

  • LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
  • O1 – Signing, lighting and guarding
  • O2 – Excavation in the highway
  • O3 – Reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials
  • O4 – Reinstatement of sub-base and base in non-bituminous materials
  • O5 – Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials
  • O6 – Reinstatement of hot-lay bituminous materials
  • O7 – Reinstatement of concrete slabs
  • O8 – Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Or you will become competent in the Supervision of manual excavation and reinstatement on the highway, including:

  • LA- Location and avoidance of underground services
  • S1 – Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
  • S2 – Monitoring excavation in the highway
  • S3 – Monitoring reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials
  • S4 – Monitoring reinstatement of sub-base and non-bituminous materials
  • S5 – Monitoring reinstatement in bituminous materials
  • S6 – Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs
  • S7 – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete highways.

Teaching & Assessment

The course includes:

  1. Practical tasks and observation exercises
  2. Classroom-based theory including written assignments
  3. Operatives and supervisors learn on the same course to replicate a team environment
