Course Overview

Disability Awareness in the Workplace Training (DAWT) gives employers and their staff practical advice on how to be confident, encouraging and supportive of employees with disabilities and so enable them to be successful and valued members of the workforce.

The training is suitable for management and all other employees. It includes an open forum for people to ask questions they might otherwise be afraid to ask.

What will be covered?

On completion of the training attendees will have a greater understanding of:

  • disabilities including mental health issues, learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders and
  • physical/sensory disabilities
  • the importance of creating opportunities for young people with SEND
  • the purpose of Reasonable Adjustments within the workplace and recruitment process
    strategies for effective communication with people who have a disability
    the Equality Act 2010
  • the Government’s Access to Work programme
  • the basic principles of the Social Model of Disability
  • basic principles of Training In Systematic Instruction and its role in developing independent workers.
